The Seal of The Dudley Canal Company The Dudley Canal Trust

Volunteering

1. Promoting the work of the Trust at local and national events.
Activities to include:
Meeting and greeting members of the public and inviting them to view our flagship historical Grand Union boat Sagitta. In this role you would expect to explain to the public the work of the Trust in the past, aided by pictures throughout the boat, the aims for the future and to showcase the boatman’s cabin (information sheet will be provided for you to use as a guide).
Manning our tombola stall to further promote the Trust.
For national events, e.g. Braunston and Crick, travel expenses and free entrance to the event will be provided.

2. Crewing the Trust’s historical boats to events.
Activities to include: lock operation, stoking the fire and tea making. You will be given the opportunity to steer the boats. Training will be provided (for insurance purposes you must be over 16 for this activity).

3. Work Parties.
Activities to include: weed hacking, hedge cutting, bridge painting, general site tidying, removing rubbish from canal with grappling hooks (it’s a bit like opening Christmas presents only not as clean) and generally getting your hands dirty (which is great fun!)
